Deckbuilders that turn a short break into an hour
Deckbuilding roguelikes are the sneakiest genre on mobile. You tell yourself you'll do one quick run, and then the sun's gone down and you're mid-battle with a deck you're weirdly proud of.
Tavern Tactics is the one I keep coming back to. The magic is in the choices between fights: every upgrade tempts you toward a build, and half the fun is discovering combos the game never explicitly points out.
What makes the genre work on phones is the session shape. A single fight is a couple of minutes, but the run stretches long enough to feel like a real journey. It's easy to stop and hard to want to.
If you're new to deckbuilders, start slow and don't grab every card. A lean, focused deck almost always beats a bloated one. Learn that lesson early and you'll enjoy them far more.
