Story or grind: what really makes a mobile RPG worth it
Every mobile RPG lives on a spectrum between story and grind. Lean too hard into story and the combat feels pointless; lean too hard into grind and you're just watching numbers go up. The good ones find the middle.
After playing dozens of them, I've noticed the standout titles make grinding feel like part of the story. You're not farming for the sake of it; you're preparing for a boss you actually care about beating, protecting a companion you've grown attached to.
Emberfall Saga is a recent example that nails this. The leveling never feels like homework because each fight teaches you something and the writing gives you a reason to keep going.
My advice when trying a new RPG: give it three or four hours. The first hour is almost always tutorial fluff. If by hour three you still don't care about anyone in your party, it probably won't get better.
